The Story

SLJ Co. wanted a cohesive, standout brand identity for their launch. My first step was to dive deep into a detailed brand strategy session with the business owner, Deena, to ask questions with the goal of understanding and clarifying the vision for her business.

Brand Discovery

After our initial conversation, I needed to learn about SLJ Co.’s ideal customers. I found out where they spend time online, what attracts them, and what they value most. I learned that her customers value wholesome, quality ingredients, nostalgia, and a homemade touch.

Branding

The insights I got into Sweet Life Jelly Company directly influenced the decisions I made for the branding. For example, the primary brand color was directly inspired by the vibrant color of Sweet Life Jelly. I chose the font because it conveys a nostalgic and approachable simplicity. I hand-illustrated the imagery to add to the classic feel and to highlight the wholesomeness of the product.

Messaging

Deena has a great personality that shines through her online presence (and in-person too!) and the real story of Sweet Life Jelly Company is one I know really resonates with people. I knew her brand voice needed warmth and playfulness all while tapping into the emotional touch points of nostalgia, tradition and family connectivity.

Packaging Design

Since SLJ Co.’s customers care deeply about wholesome ingredients my first priority was designing packaging that is transparent and trustworthy. I designed her labels according to the FDA guidelines which means the ingredient list and nutritional information are clearly written so that her audience would feel comfortable and familiar reading it. Using FDA guidelines also means that her labels can scale with her as her business grows.

The labels feature hand-illustrated fruits, by me, that showcase the product’s natural ingredients and classic homemade feel.

After

Website Design

I chose Squarespace as the platform because it has native support for e-commerce and because out of all the options I believe is aligned perfectly with Deena’s technical comfort level.

I wanted the layout of the website to be colorful and clean. The website uses custom CSS to make it easier to navigate and mobile responsive which makes it easier for her customers to purchase their favorite jellies.
